Currently, we have 23 children living with us from infancy to the age of 15. As different as the personalities of the kids are, so are their stories. Some have faced discrimination due to the caste system in their home communities, or lost one or both of their parents altogether. Often, Parents find that accomodating and educating their kids is an unbearable financial burden, and they are forced to give them away.
If you are interested in having a look at the children's personalities, interests and histories, please feel free to look through these profiles.

Kosok Bishowkarma (5 years)
The Little Sunshine
Grade: Nursery
Kosok is a very intelligent young girl, that has been adopted by Samjhana and Kamal, and is being raised in the orphanage with the other children. She is very good at constantly getting herself dirty, which she does not seem to mind, according to her permanently fixed smile. Although she is already a big girl, she still loves to be carried around, and frequently takes little snoozes on other people's laps. Most of the day she spends playing and fighting with her older brother Sisank, who are rarely seen apart from each other.
Hobbies: Dressing up, colouring
Future Goal: To get her own wardrobe
Family History: Kosok was born in Patan Hospital, quite near to where she now lives in the orphanage. Her first few years of life were bleak, and it didn't appear that her constant physical ailments would ever cease. She was a very tiny baby born to a low caste mother and a high caste father. The father never accepted that his lover was pregnant, and the mother abandoned her at the hospital when she was born. Being a mixed caste baby in Nepal is socially unacceptable. Shortly after she was abandoned, SBCH was informed, and she was adopted by Kamal and Samjhana.

Krishna Budathoki (7 years)
The Little Whirlwind
Grade: LKG Favourite Subject: English
Krishna is a tiny girl, but not to be underestimated. She mobilizes an energy, one would not have suspected in her. If she is not found running around the house, she is at least acrobatically twisting herself around on a yoga mattress. Only rarely does she take a rest, and never for very long. Minutes later she is dancing and jumping around again. No wonder, that at night, she is one of the first ones to be found asleep on one of the older girls' lap after such an exhausting day - as usual.
Hobbies: Playing
Future Goal: Learn how to sit still
Family History: Krishna was born on the border between Assam, in India, and Nepal. When she arrived at the orphange, she could speak very limited Nepali, and would communicate only in Hindi, making her first while here a little rough. Her father was killed in the Nepali civil war, and her mother, with several other children, was unable to adequately care for her. Krishna was then brought here, where she has really taken root.

note
Please note, that the same last name does not indicate family belonging in the Nepali naming system, but often the belonging to a same caste. Except of Susank and Sisank Bishowkarma, Kamal's sons, none of the children are related by blood. Irregularities in grades are due to different points of entry into the school system.
